Worship Leader Dreama Overfelt

It is so amazing that God is always one step ahead of us and places us exactly where He wants us to be if we will allow Him to.  I know that God prepared me many years ago when my family and I traveled across the country going from church to church to minister to people through music. I was on the road for about 14 years and God blessed our ministry in great and mighty ways! I know now after coming off the road what my purpose and God’s plan is for my life. He brought me to New Testament to lead worship and bring God’s people together to glorify and uplift His name. My prayer is that I will always continue to do what God wants me to do and do it to the best of my ability. It is a privilege and honor to be here at New Testament Baptist Church and to be a part of an exciting and growing church.

Worship Team

Our purpose here in the music ministry is to serve God and live in the wonder of worship.  Our one desire is to bring glory to Him.  Leading praise and worship is not merely “filling in” a part of the service or performing music, but to uplift the name of Jesus Christ thru song and to lead God’s people into the very throne room of God.  This is an awesome responsibility and privilege for the music team here at New Testament Baptist Church.

We worship because He commands it – Ps 148:1-3

Praise the Lord,
Praise the Lord from the heavens;
praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels;
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon;
praise him, all you shining stars.

We worship because He is worthy – Ps: 18:3

I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.

We worship for His greatness – Ps 98:3

He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.

Worship brings people into a realm of praise and honor to Jesus. Singing has always been in my heart, just as the Book of Psalms tells us, to come before Him singing; to come before Him in praise.  This particular worship team at NTBC is one that puts each and every member before God’s throne in prayer, and lifts one another up in times of need. This is a team led by a dedicated servant of God, that puts time and prayer into each week, into each service, and into each song. I am proud to belong to this team of people who only want to direct ALL eyes to Jesus, our salvation.

To be a part of a team is a privilege. To be a part of the New Testament Praise and Worship Team is an honor. I came to New Testament in 2014. Within a year, I felt the Lord calling me to the singing ministry. Isn’t that why He created us in the first place? Isaiah 43:7 says, “everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” We are to give God all the glory. In fact, that’s what praise means; warm admiration for all that God has done for us. Worship, on the other hand, is an expression of reverence and adoration of God. Singing on the NTBC Praise and Worship team is more than just singing songs, it’s my testimony. It is a condition of the heart, of my heart, to glorify Him and to yield to Him in my life. This team is also about family. The definition of family refers to all descendants of a common ancestor. Everyone on this team is my family; we all have a common ancestor-Jesus. We have all been purchased and redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus! What does this team mean to me? EVERYTHING! They are prayer warriors, soul seekers, shoulder lenders, and bear huggers! I love you guys!

I have been so blessed to be a part of this group of people that have become my closest friends. We pray together, do devotions together, enjoy each other’s company and care about each other’s lives. We get texts from team members with prayer requests and celebrate when any of us has a “victory” in life, whether it be of a spiritual or health nature. The Bible calls for us to work in excellency and to worship God with a full heart. No matter what part of the team it is, from the sound man, tech men, the band, the singers, all have a part in leading the church in a praise and worship experience. They do not take their responsibility lightly and give Him complete gratitude and thankfulness. I am honored and blessed to be a part of this group. Col 3:16 says, “Let the word in Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

Being a part of the Music Ministry at NTBC is a privilege. I get to Worship my Lord and at the same time encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ to sing the praises to Jesus that He so richly deserves. Our group is a family made up of the choir, the band and the praise team, with no one person being more important than any of the rest.

Every Sunday we get to worship before the rest of the congregation even arrives. Then, we get to worship again with each service. We love each other, pray for each other and encourage each other as every Christian family member should. I am so blessed. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for such blessings!
